How to get grant funded electric car charging points for your workplace

To encourage the uptake of electric vehicles, the Government are offering grants for the purchase and installation of charging points at eligible homes and workplaces.
Through the Office of Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV), organisations can claim a Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) grant which is an incentive towards the capital expenditure of the purchase and installation of charging points.
How much is the Workplace Charging Scheme grant?
The WCS gives a grant of up to 75% of the purchase and installation costs of a charging point. Organisations can claim up to £500 for each socket. This was increased from £300 on 9 July 2018 in the Government’s Road to Zero plan.
Each eligible organisation is limited to the purchase and installation of 20 sockets across all owned sites – so that means an organisation can claim up to £10,000 for EV chargepoints.
The grant is issued through a voucher-based system which is claimed by the chargepoint installer on behalf of the company having the installation.
What are the eligibility criteria for the WCS?
The scheme is open to organisations in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland that:
1) Are a registered business, charity, or public sector organisation.
2) Are a public authority or have received less than 200,000 Euros of public support in the last three fiscal years.
3) Can declare a need for electric vehicle charging equipment or an intent to encourage uptake among their staff and/or fleet.
4) Have dedicated off-street parking for staff and/or fleets.
5) Own the property or have consent from the landlord for chargepoints to be installed.
Applicants must maintain the chargepoint for a minimum of three years and ensure measures are in place to provide proof of compliance to the scheme and usage data to OLEV to guide future policy development.
Eligible charge point makes and models
You can only use vouchers for charging points that meet the minimum technical specifications and have been approved by OLEV. An up-to-date list of approved manufacturers and models of charge points can be found on the OLEV website.
Eligible charge point installers
To benefit from the scheme, workplaces must use an installer who has been authorised by OLEV for the WCS and who has approval from a manufacturer to install their OLEV approved charge point models. The voucher can only be redeemed by eligible installers who have been authorised before the installation took place.

How to apply for the Workplace Charging Scheme
We would recommend having a site survey before applying for the grant so you know what is and isn’t possible on your site or which system would work best on your site. We offer a free site survey for organisations in Wiltshire and the South West.
Businesses must apply for the scheme using the OLEV online application portal.
Successful applicants will be issued with a unique identification voucher code via email, which can be given to any approved installer.
IDDEA are approved installers, and once the chargepoint(s) have been installed, we will claim the grant from OLEV on your behalf. The chargepoint installation must be completed and the voucher claimed within four months of the voucher being issued.
